Welcomed with great honors in Tokyo, the Teatro Massimo of Palermo is on tour in six cities of Kansai with two very successful productions such as La traviata and La bohème. Today the debut in Tokyo with La bohème and ten minutes of applause.

Two cult works such as La traviata and La bohème and ten performances for the long-awaited tour in Japan, in six cities of Kansai, after the break forced by the pandemic.

Today the debut with La bohème and a great and announced success in Tokyo at the Bunka Kaikan.

After the debut in Tokyo, the tour will visit five other Japanese cities: Takasaki, Hamamatsu, Otsu, Nagoya and Osaka.

“A special occasion and emotion for the whole Teatro Massimo and its workers to bring two productions made by the Theater to Japan – says the President of the Foundation and Mayor of Palermo Roberto Lagalla. The enthusiasm with which the two operas, among the most important and representative of Italian opera, are welcomed by the Japanese public must be a source of pride for the Theater and for the city of Palermo".

"The Teatro Massimo - adds Superintendent Marco Betta, who attended the debut alongside the Italian Ambassador to Japan Giancarlo Benedetti - returns to Japan with two operas that represent and preserve the values and identity of the great opera tradition Italian in the world. Thanks to Masayuki Kobayashi, with whom Teatro Massimo has been collaborating for years, it was possible to imagine and realize this wonderful dream, an important moment for our Theater and for the great artists who are involved in this tour. We return to Japan with two productions entirely produced by the Teatro Massimo, orchestra, choir, corps de ballet, technicians, organizational departments, and we are enthusiastic and proud to meet the Japanese public in six cities who, with their special sensitivity and rich cultural soul it will give us the opportunity to meet our two civilizations in the sign of the art of music”.

"The return of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo to Japan - adds the Italian Ambassador to Japan Gianluigi Benedetti - offers all opera lovers an extraordinary opportunity to attend two productions of the highest level: Puccini's "La bohème" and Verdi's Traviata. Opera is an integral part of our country's culture and is an extraordinary means of spreading the Italian language: it is therefore a real honor for me to see it celebrated and appreciated on an important and sophisticated stage like the Japanese one. I thank the Superintendent, Marco Betta and the Teatro Massimo of Palermo for their efforts over the years to preserve and make known the rich heritage of Italian opera in the world, with performances that continue to fascinate audiences in every country".
